Frequently Asked Questions

Patients and caregivers often need clear information when care needs change or new equipment becomes necessary. Our medical equipment FAQs below address the most frequent questions we receive and help clarify next steps.

If I qualify, when will I receive my power wheelchair?

Once you qualify for a power wheelchair, Vital Medical Solutions arranges free power wheelchair delivery directly to your home. Delivery takes place after we receive all required forms from your physician or healthcare provider.

After delivery, we submit the claim to Medicare for reimbursement. In the rare event that reimbursement is denied, our team will review available options with you so ownership of the power wheelchair can be maintained whenever possible.

Will Medicare pay for a Power Wheelchair?

If you qualify, Medicare will pay 80% of a set allowable for a power wheelchair. With a secondary insurance, there can be no cost to you.*

Can I find out if I medically qualify before I purchase the power wheelchair?

Yes.

How do I know if I qualify?

Medicare requires that you meet specific medical criteria to qualify for coverage. Your physician or healthcare provider evaluates your condition and confirms whether you meet Medicare’s eligibility guidelines. For more details about eligibility requirements, you can review Medicare’s durable medical equipment (DME) coverage guidelines.

Do I need a prescription for medical equipment?

Yes. Equipment selection depends on physician recommendations, patient needs, and home conditions. We help review options, explain features, and support informed decisions.

How do I know which medical equipment is right?

Medical equipment selection is guided by physician recommendations, patient needs, and home considerations. Our team helps review options and explain features to support informed decisions.

How do I receive service if my power wheelchair needs maintenance?

If your power wheelchair requires service, support is available right away. During the first year, Vital Medical Solutions or an authorized Pride Mobility service provider will handle covered repairs at no cost.

After the initial warranty period, your insurance provider is billed for any medically necessary service. Our team helps coordinate next steps to ensure repairs are handled efficiently.

Is Medicare the only form of insurance that covers a power wheelchair?

No. At Vital Medical, we accept Medicare, Medi-Cal (for California residents), and most PPO insurance plans.

If you meet Medicare guidelines and your physician approves the request, you may pay little or nothing out of pocket for a power wheelchair.

Do you deliver and set up medical equipment?

Yes. We coordinate delivery and professional setup for eligible equipment. Additionally, patients and caregivers receive guidance on safe and proper use to support long-term success.

If equipment requires service or adjustment, we help assess the issue and coordinate available support. This approach helps maintain safety and long-term usability.

Can you help with insurance or Medicare questions?

We assist with general insurance and Medicare-related questions and explain common requirements. Coverage decisions depend on individual plans and medical necessity. It's our hope you find these medical equipment FAQs to be helpful in providing answers to your questions.
